William Furnifold Marshall Papers, 1879-1926

His papers consist of his Wake Forest College receipts, accounts, compositions, poems, Latin exercises, a survey, speech notebook, diary/notebook, a logic and rhetoric examination taken by Eva Belle Simmons, 1879-90, n.d. His professional papers include his high school at Fair Bluff, North Carolina; correspondence, "Gastonia Gazette" newspaper clippings, correspondence with F.P. Hall, and other clippings relating to the Democratic Campaign Club, Gastonia, North Carolina, "North Carolina Education" and "North Carolina Poems", 1886-1912, and photographs. Also included are letters from Dr. Willian Louis Poteat with W.F. Marshall concerning a gift in memory of his son William (1910) who died of typhoid fever two years later, 1912.

William Furnifold Marshall attended Wake Forest College, 1879-83, where he was a debator and tutor. Awarded his diploma in 1890 he was a school teacher in Fair Bluff, North Carolina, 1884-86; Principal of Globe Academy, 1886-89, and teacher in Lenoir North Carolina before becoming editor of the Gastonia (North Carolina) Gazette, 1890-? and the North Carolina Educator, 1911-.
